"I don't expect to be the best president. I hope to be the best loved."

Warren  Gameliel Harding was born November 2, 1865 on a farm near Corsica, Ohio. He was the first of six kids. He went to a one-room schoolhouse as a child. He never really got into any trouble and he always listened to his teachers. He also went to Ohio Central College. In 1891 he got married to Florence De Wolf, a wealthy widow and they stayed married until he died.

Before he was President he edited a newspaper called The Star. Harding was Ohio's senator for two years and a U.S. senator for four years. His Republican running mate during the election of 1920 was Calvin Coolidge. During the election he won 60% of the popular vote. No other president has gotten that large a percent of votes.

While he was President he signed a paper restricting immigration. Too many people were complaining about immigrants working because they couldn’t understand their speech. He also made a new cabinet office called Bureau of the Budget to help support the executive branch.

While he was President, one of his cabinet members transferred oil to Teapot Dome, California without Harding knowing. When Harding found out he tried to get it back but they would not give it to him. They said that they legally owned it. They explained to him that they bought it from his cabinet. Since they would not give it to him his cabinet members stole it and it caused a huge scandal.
