Holiday Hills YMCA Trip

In September of 1997 and again in May of 1998 we took trips to the Holiday Hills YMCA in Pawling, New York. We participated in an Environmental Sciences Program. These are our stories:

My class took a trip to the Holiday Hills YMCA. We went in the woods to learn about plants. We talked about seeds and how they grow. We saw different kinds of animals. The animals we saw were birds, squirrels and fish. We also talked about habitats. We saw holes in the ground in the trees and in the water. We played games and one of the games was memory. We tried to catch different kinds of insects. Then we saw different tracks of animals. Then it was time to eat lunch. We ate next to the pond. Then we caught some fish, frogs and a turtle. I liked this trip because we learn about the environment.

On our trip we had a instructor named Karen Fisher from the Holiday Hills YMCA. She told us all about what we were going to do that day. First we sat in the middle of the woods and played a game. The game was all about memory. She had showed us five items and then she covered them up and asked us if we could name the items that she showed us. Next we had a Easter egg hunt and learned about the life cycle or metamorphoses of bugs or amphibians. Then we had to look for green, black, and brown fake worms on the tree branches. After that we went into the meadow and caught grasshoppers, flies, and bees. Then we played another game where someone has a water bottle and is blind folded while the people get across. If he hears a sound that he can squirt you with it. Finally, we took a long walk to the pond where we ate lunch and tried to catch some fish, frogs, worms, salamanders and turtles. Then it was time to go back to school but we did not want to go because we were having so much fun. I had a great time on this trip and I hope we come to do another challenge with Karen Fisher.

My class and I went to the Holiday Hills YMCA. We went in the woods to learn about plants. We talked about seeds and how they grow. We saw some animals like chipmunk, birds, squirrels, fish, and frogs. We played games like memory. We tried to catch different insects. We saw different types of animals, insects, and trees. Some trees have different colors because the leaves are dying. We also talked about how animals live.
