The time has come for you to begin your Ancient Egypt WebQuest! It will link you to all of the necessary pages that are required for this project. In addition, always remember that you can use our other Egypt links! Remember to put all helpful information into your binder with your activities.
Preliminary Work: Geography Text Refresher
Read and take notes on textbook pages 68-75. Keep your notes in your binder. You can also log into Pearson SuccessNet and take the Chapter 3, Section 1 self-test to check your understanding.
Now that you have your notes… may your quest begin!
Activity One: Art
Well, it turns out that you were reading your textbook so actively that you were magically transported back in time to the ancient Egyptian city of Luxor! When you look down, you notice that you are even wearing clothing from that time period! Draw yourself by completing the Draw Like an Egyptian activity. Do some research on Egyptians’ daily lives and how Egyptians dressed! You can also learn about how linen was made.
Activity Two: Geography
You begin your journey by boat along the Nile River. After reading your story carefully, write about your travels in the form of a detailed journal entry. Important details to cover:
~What did you see along the way? (In addition to the story, you can also return to look at Luxor.)
~What is the topography of the Nile River Valley like?
~How did the geography of Egypt influence their way of life?
Be sure to describe your answers in full and complete sentences.
Activity Three: Natural Resources
You make your way to the shop of a jeweler in Memphis. He puts you to work immediately by sending you to find natural resources for his jewelry. Keep track of all that you find on the Natural Resources Chart. Next, draw and label a diagram of what the jeweler created.
For more Egyptian resources, click on here. After researching, add to your list of the natural resources that could be found in Ancient Egypt. Then choose several resources from that list to write about by answering the question, “How did the Ancient Egyptians use their natural resources?”
Be sure to write in well-thought-out paragraphs.
Activity Four: Social Classes
As you travel across the land, you begin to see differences between the upper and lower classes in Egypt. Click on this story to discover more. After carefully reading, create a detailed T-Chart comparing the life of a farmer to that of a noble in Ancient Egypt.
Activity Five: Scribes
You are taken in by a family and sent to school to become a scribe. Describe how the process works. You may write a paragraph or create a flow chart to describe it. Finally, complete Scribe Chart worksheet.
You have obviously been taught how to write your name, and you have even begun to learn some math. To prove it, Write Your Name in Hieroglyphics using the “Make a Cartouche” activity sheet. Check your own work here. Make a note of any differences and why you think that may be.
Activity Six: Language
Read text on Hieroglyphics. Find the answer to the following question.
~What is the Rosetta Stone, why is it important, and how was it used by archaeologists?
Activity Seven: Religion
Click on Story. After carefully reading, write a paragraph describing the responsibilities of an Egyptian Pharaoh. You may want to use other research materials if you need more information. Be sure to include details about the origin of the word “pharaoh.”

Describe the theory of how the pyramids were built. You may use a flow chart, a 8”x10” poster, or a paragraph to complete this activity. Describe why they were typically built.
List one famous example of each type with a description.

Activity Ten: Religion
Click on Mummification. Use the information and pictures you see there, plus information found at this site on mummies to help you create a cartoon strip illustrating the steps taken to mummify a body. Here is more information as well.

Create an 8”x10” poster describing one of the Egyptian Gods. Be sure to include their name and their role in Egyptian life. Poster materials are available in class.
