How the Stars Got in the Sky

A long, long time ago in the Cherokee
tribe, there lived a family of two good sisters and two bad brothers. They all had a job
to do. The sisters cooked and the brothers hunted. The days passed quickly, but the
brothers were not completing their jobs. The brothers were getting into mischief.
The sisters got furious that the men were coming home late and
not appreciating the crops, the cooking and clothing they made.
They decided to run away. This would cause the men to have to do their own work. When the women left the men were wondering where they had gone, and how they would survive. When the women left they took bows and arrows and torches.
The women set up villages on the plains many miles away. They were so happy to be free and alone, but it was too dark on the plains. Therefore the women took balls of flames and shot them into the sky. The arrows cracked the ball into many pieces causing millions of balls of light. We call them stars. Some of the stars fell from the sky causing people to die in the nearby tribe. The stars that stayed up, shined brighter then the ones that fell. That is the reason we now have stars in the sky.
