How
Night was Formed

Long ago in a native village called Sedna there lived two brothers. In this village it was never night and always day. One day the two brothers got sick of the light. After working, the brothers were very tired because of the heat and light. The people did not know when to rest because there were no counted hours of the day.
One day they decided to ask the Great Spirit for help. They were always scared to ask him questions.
They cautiously asked the Great Spirit, "Can you create night for us?"
The Great Spirit said, "I will grant you night only if you get me a flame from the sun, (and only the sun.)"
When they got home, they thought about the deal they had made with the Great Spirit. The evil brother decided to trick the Great Spirit (to save him work) but the good brother did not want to trick the Great Spirit. He knew something bad would happen to them, but the evil brother did not listen to his older, wiser brother. The evil brother decided to make the flame with fire. He thought he would be known in all the land. The good brother thought his evil brother was foolish. He started to sharpen his arrow which he would bring to the top of the highest mountain to shoot at the sun and bring back the sun's flame that the Great Spirit said to do. When he was finished with his work he started to climb the mountain (without his brother). Then he aimed his arrow at the sun. He let go of the arrow but the arrow missed the sun. Then he took a different arrow and aimed at the sun very carefully. Then he let go and punctured the sun. Then he saw something falling toward him. It was the flame. He caught the returning arrow in his hand without burning himself. He quickly ran to the Great Spirit's house.
When the sun hits the moon the evil brother is reminded of the lesson, which is, DO NOT TRY TO BECOME FAMOUS THROUGH EVIL METHODS.
When he got to the Great Spirit's house he saw his evil brother in the process of tricking the Great Spirit. The Great Spirit had a test. He blew on the flame. If it was really from the sun it would not go out (because the sun never goes out). The evil brother's flame went out. The evil brother became the moon. When the Great Spirit blew on the good brother's flame it did not go out. He became famous throughout the land for getting the Great Spirit to create night.
