Dolley
Madison Hi! My name is Dolley Madison.I have straight brown and olive green eyes. When I was younger I was a Quaker so I wore plain blue and grey dresses and I was very jolley. As I got older I became very serious. But when I married James Madison I became very jolly again. Let me tell you about an adventure I once had. It took place after I married James Madison. We moved into an empty Presidential Palace. Jefferson served 2 terms and then James was elected President of the United States in 1808. He was the fourth man to hold the highest office in the land. As first lady, I brought an elegance to the land called the U.S. In 1812 England provoked the United States to war. In 1814,the British invaded Washington itself. James was away at army. With the British on the way I knew I had to go. I had the servants pack important papers and I just grabbed a large portrait of George Washington off the dining room wall. Then I drove off with my few possessions. Not long after, the British set the city on fire and the Presidents Palace was destroyed. An adventure I had was one day I was on a boat with James and we were sailing to Africa for the needy people. On the way, we landed in England instead. The British knew who James was and they would hold him captive. I managed to get away because they did not realize who I was. My job was to help free James from Jail. I had to hurry because they could kill him any day. I met two young ladies who lived there but wanted to go to America but did not have any money and did not want to become slaves. I promised to bring them if they helped me free James. Since they were very beautiful they managed to distract the guards while I snuck and got the key off the hook and freed James. We met the ladies outside a few minutes later, got in the boat and sailed to Africa. We spent some time in Africa helping the needy people and a week later we went back to America. It was an unforgettable journey.

Madison My name is Dolley Madison I have brown hair. I am the First Lady of the United States. My husbands name is James Madison, he is the fourth president. Many people say I am a very friendly person, once one of my guests said, "Dolley Madison is a fine woman who has a smile and a pleasant word for everyone." I absolutely adore parties and many people come to my parties. I am plump, pretty and lively. I love my job, because I like meeting people, setting fashions and having parties. One of my most exciting adventures happened during the Great Fire of 1814. It all started out when James, my husband the president left Washington, D.C. to see how the war was going. One day I received a letter from James telling me that I must pack and be ready to leave my home because the British troops were nearing. I packed my stuff up in trunks especially important papers and documents. As my carriage neared, I could hear the fire of the cannon balls approaching. I packed my luggage but put up a fit because I wanted to save George Washingtons picture and would not leave without it. I am very proud of myself because I saved these important documents for all the American people. On the dark side, our dear home, the White House, was burned down. One of my other adventures was... James had gone to New York to finish some business. The strongest and most brave bodyguards had gotten quite bored waiting around so I suggested that they could go out for two hours, but no getting drunk. They agreed and went off. I was in the office signing some paperwork, suddenly I heard gunfire, but I thought it must have been a hunter. I looked out the window and saw Lucy, my maid lying on the floor dead. I almost fainted at the sight of it. I ran to the cupboard and found the map of every secret passage in the house. I ran to the fireplace and switched a knob in the corner. The wall opened, I could hear footsteps getting closer to the office door. I had forgotten the map on the table. I thought that if I went back to get it, the wall would close. Nevertheless, I ran to the table, the wall was closing, the doorknob was turning! I saw the key to the door. I ran to the door and got there in time. I locked the door and then I just got to the fireplace in time to slide through. It was so dark in the passageway I could barely read the map. I ran and ran until I finally saw a glance of light. I got closer and closer but it seemed that the light was getting farther and farther. I felt like I would chase light forever, and then suddenly I saw a window. I jumped out the window and found myself a ditch about six feet deep. I tried to climb out but it was hopeless. I heard some guards talking. They belonged to the White House so I called for help. They rescued me and caught the robber. It had been a British soldier who had gone crazy. |
