Ghana  Ghana is a country in Africa. On this map it is yellow.

Here's a little rebus story to introduce you to Ghana!
If you rest your mouse on the picture, a word will pop up
telling you what the picture stands for!

Ghana is a country in Africa.  Your grandparents may
know  it as the Gold Coast. It was called the Gold Coast
because there is a lot of  gold there. It used to belong
to Great Britain (that's England). When the country
won their independence from Great Britain in 1957
the name was changed to Ghana.  The flag of Ghana
has red, yellow and green stripes and a black star. The
people of Ghana speak many languages but the official
language is English. The largest river in Ghana is the
Volta River. There is a dam  across the river that
makes one of the world's largest man made lakes
Lake Volta. Most Ghanaians are farmers , but some
work in mines, and others work as lumberers. Ghana
has gold and diamonds but their most important crop is
cocoa beans. They are used to make chocolate. The
favorite sport in Ghana is soccer. In Ghana they have
lions and  antelope.
