Animal Fables How The Alligator Got Its Teeth Back about a hundred years ago alligators had no teeth. This is a story about how alligators got their teeth. Once, long ago there was a very grumpy and greedy alligator. This alligator did not chew his food he swallowed it whole. He ate little children, small fish, and animals that came to the pond to drink. One day a chipmunk came to the pond to drink, but the alligator did not notice until he finished eating a child. Then he spotted the little victim and jumped at it. Then he remembered that there was a thorn bush right where the chipmunk was and he couldnt stop himself. He landed in the thorn bush head first and got a whole mouth full of thorns. Those thorns turned solid and hard and they became teeth. And thats how alligators got their teeth. THE END HOW THE BAT GOT ITS WINGS It all began on a brisk night. At exactly 12 oclock a small bat appeared out of nowhere. It had two feet, very weird. He walked down the dirt road. Then the bat saw a little hut in the woods. The hut had no door so the bat walked right in. A wizard was mixing a formula. The bat saw the wizard and squeaked. The wizard looked proud and then saw the unusual bat and said, "Ah, just what I was looking for." The wizard picked up the bat and the wizard gave the bat the formula to the bat. After 4 years the bat grew wings. The bat flew to New York, Mexico, Ohio, Washington, Arizona and Albany. Thats is how the bat got its wings. How The Blue Fish Got Blue One day a Blue fish was swimming in the ocean, and he asked his friend if they wanted to play. His friends said Yes. His friends were named Flounder Hammerhead and Moray. Then they went for a swim and they went very far from home. Blue fish stopped to take a rest, and Moray did not notice that bluefish had stopped. So bluefish got lost, and it was getting dark. He went in to a clump of seaweed and then he noticed that someone was dropping blue paint on him. He turned blue and that's how bluefish got blue. How The Cat Got Its Purr Long, long ago there lived a cat that felt like everything was large compared to her. It begged for food and whenever anyone gave it food she had no way of saying thank you. After a while no one fed her anymore, so she took off into a beautiful, charming and secret forest of her own. On the way she found a pleasant blue spool of yarn. In a tiny stream she caught sight of a pure white swan with a golden crown on her head. The swan took a long glance at the sleek small cat and finally asked, "Should I grant you a wish?" The cat quivered and answered, "Yes." So she went deeper into the forest until she saw the most beautiful canary she had ever seen. The little cat asked the beautiful golden canary, "May I please have one of your beautiful golden feathers for this beautiful blue spool of yarn?" The golden canary accepted the offering and gave one of the beautiful feathers to the little cat. The cat was overjoyed and went back to the stream. The cat gave the feather to the swan and the swan asked, "What do you wish for?" The tiny cat said, "I would like to have a special way to say thank you to others." The swan said, "I shall give you a purr." So the wish was granted. The little cat gave a tender purr to the swan and went away. From then on whenever a cat is contented it will purr. How Cat Got His Whiskers Way back hundreds of years ago there was Cat and Mouse. Cat was chasing Mouse day after day but Mouse was clever and always escaped into his hole. One day, Cat got tired of chasing Mouse so he thought: "Im never going to catch Mouse if he keeps escaping! I must go to the wise one to on top of Mount Kwanzao to get teachings to catch Mouse. The following day, Cat climbed Mount Kwanzao and he brought great treasures from far lands, which was quit heavy. He climbed and climbed, but the mountain seemed to never end. So, Cat just kept climbing until at last he came to the top. He saw a great temple made out of gold! He gathered all his strength and knocked loudly on the door and called out, "Oh wise one, I have come to learn your teachings." A voice came from inside the temple, "I will teach you if you complete these tasks: first, bring the north wind to show your strength, second, give up your courage to show that you are strong enough inside to sacrifice a part of yourself." Cat brought forth the north wind and gave all his courage. The wise one took these things but gave back his courage. Then he came out and welcomed Cat. The wise one taught Cat for many years. He taught him how to catch many animals including Mouse. So after the lessons, Cat came back and just before he chased Mouse, he stretched the fur around his mouth furiously until it grew long and thin. Then Cat chased Mouse into the hole and measured the hole with his new whiskers and discovered that the hole was big enough for him to fit through. Finally Cat caught Mouse and proved that he was worthy. That is how cats got whiskers. THE END How The Chicken Got Its Cluck Long ago was a land called Diamond Land. All the animals were happy, all animals that is, except for a small little chicken named Jem. One day the king of Diamond Land assigned all his men to look for the cluck box so that Jem could talk. The men looked all over, for the cluck box but they just couldnt find it. One day, Jem took a walk by Crystal Lake. An alligator so small and jolly came out. Jem thought he was big and fierce so she ran to a cave. She ran and ran. The cluck box appeared! Jem was so happy. She could hardly wait to tell the king. She walked and walked until her legs got tired. It was getting dark and Jem's legs were tired so she set up a camp. In the morning Jem began to walk again and, she found Ruby Castle. She showed the king and he was happy too. She opened it and now Jem could cluck words. Thats how a chicken got its cluck. How The Dalmatian Got Its Spots The Dalmatian was all white to begin with, and she hated it. She wanted another color on her white coat. One day she was walking on the sidewalk where a painter was painting a black wall. As the painter was painting a cat and dog were running by and they knocked over the ladder that the painter was standing on. The Dalmatians had just stepped under the ladder. The black paint spilled all over the Dalmatians. Black spots were everywhere! She loved her new spots! They were perfect. It was just what she wanted, new black spots. Soon all the Dalmatians wanted black spots too, so they spilled paint on each other and all the Dalmatians had black spots. The End How The Monkey Got His Tail Once upon a time there lived a monkey who had no tail. He asked almost everyone in the jungle if they had a tail. One day he asked water for a tail and water said yes. Monkey was very surprised. Then water said, "Someone threw a monkey tail in your home but you better hurry up or someone will get it." By the time monkey got home he saw another monkey with a tail. He cut of that monkeys tail and left. Then he glued on the tail. And thats how the monkey got his tail. How The Tiger Got His Stripes Long ago there was a jungle full of animals. One day the sun wouldnt come out and the animals were scared. So the tiger said he would bring back the sun. He began to climb the biggest mountain in the jungle. On his way he met a lion. They began to fight and the tiger won. He climbed to the top of the mountain and saw the sun. The tiger asked the sun why he wouldnt come out. The sun said, "Because I am miserable." The tiger asked why the sun was miserable and the sun said because my mom died. The tiger thought that if he jumped at the sun he could push it out of its house. So the tiger jumped but he got burned by the sun and he got black stripes. From that day on, all tigers have had black stripes. How The Zebra Got His Stripes One day a king that was a zebra was looking down from his balcony and saw animals with colors in their spots and stripes. He asked his guards how they got their colors. They said from the king of colors because he promised to give us colors in our spots and stripes. The king asked why wasnt I told about this. They said, "We dont know." The king got so jealous that he burned and arrested all the animals with colors. One day the King Zebra decided to go to the King of Colors. He asked why nobody told him about the colors. The King of Colors said he told the animals to tell him, and he said thank you and walked away. When King Zebra came back to his jail chamber and asked the animals how come they didnt tell him about getting colors. The animals answered the day we were going to tell you, you told your guards to tell us to go away. King Zebra them he was sorry and he went back to the King of Colors and he got his black stripes. He took all the animals out of jail and because he had burned down all their houses he let the animals live in his house until King Zebra could have new houses for them. Why The Cheetah Runs Fast Once there was a very, very old man who was about one thousand, two hundred years old. He loved animals and he had dogs, cats, parrots, jaguars, wildcats, and monkeys. He also had three sons and a wife. They all loved animals because when they had to go to scary places the animals would come with them. That made the people feel courageous. Whenever the animals found food they would give it to their owner and he made sure his pets got food too. All the animals were very well trained by the three sons. One day they all went on a camping trip to the mountains where they found a cheetah. The cheetah was strong but could not run fast. So the boys tried to train the cheetah for a very, very long time, but that did not help. One day when the dad went hunting the cheetah ate a weird plant and drank some water from a magic river. The boys went with the cheetah, then the cheetah started walking fast then started running faster and faster. At that moment, the cheetah found its family and all the cheetahs wondered how he could run so fast. He showed them the weird plant and magic river. Thats how the cheetah learned to run fast.
