Characteristics: The Chinese Shar Pei is intelligent, playful, active, and brave. It has a loose, rough coat.

Height and Weight: It can grow up to 20 inches tall and weigh from 40 to 65 pounds.

Original Function: It was originally used for herding, hunting, guard dog and dog fighting. The Shar Pei protected the livestock from predators and hunted animals for the farmers. It was also used to intimidate barbarian thieves.

Today's Function: Today the Chinese Shar Pei is a companion.
