Date of Origin: 1909
Characteristics: The Cairn Terrier has a fox like expression. These breeds have a shaggy outer coat with a soft, nice undercoat. This dog is spirit, alert, loyal, lovable and mischievous. They can be curious and fearless, patient with children and very playful. This dog is good at hunting and tracking. It is also used to do tricks.
Height & Weight: The Cairn Terrier's height is 10-13 inches and it weighs 14-18 pounds.
Original Function: This dog was named after the piles of stones used in Scotland that marked the borders of farms and graves. The Cairn Terrier's job was to hunt out small animals from their lairs under these stones.
Today's Function: Today's function is as a companion dog. It is also used in obedience trials and dog shows.
