Middle School Resource Room The Resource Room is more a program than a setting. The Resource program is part of an inclusion model, in which teachers collaborate on lessons and in-class support is provided. Students with special needs receive support in math, reading and writing in the content areas, science and study skills. Much time is spent on writing using graphic organizers. The writing lessons are based on Windward’s Basic Writing Program and Deshler, Ellis and Lenz strategic writing skills for adolescents with learning disabilities. Parents, who wish to become familiar with some of the strategies used, can download outlines from Mrs. McDougal’s web page. In addition technology is incorporated into the program with time spent using Inspiration, a graphic organizer software and other educational software. Notes and study guides are available to any student who needs them. Communication through e-mail is provided weekly to any parent who wishes to be informed of tests and long-term projects. Students who work hard and complete their work are entitled to "McDougal dollars." The money can be used to buy food or other items at the end of the week.
