In the 20s, the car allowed more and more people to travel. Anyone could buy a Model T for around $300. People were traveling around the country and moving from city to city. In December the very first motel opens in San Luis Obispo, Calif. James Vail’s Motel Inn with room for 160 guests is located on one of the busiest U.S. motor routes. A new way of life was beginning for Americans!
Calvin Coolidge was inaugurated on March 4.
In July of 1925 John T. Scopes of Dayton, Tenn. goes on trial for teaching Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. The teaching of evolution is against state law. C.S. Darrow is the defense attorney, and W.J. Bryan aids the prosecutor. Scopes was convicted of this crime but released on a technicality.

In 1925 Clarence Birdseye and Charles Seabrook developed a deep-freezing process for cooked foods. Foods are tightly packed in a small carton where the food is encased in a metal mold. Several of these molds are placed in a metal tube that is lowered and completely covered in a low-temperature solution that produced a quick-contact process.
An automatic potato-peeling machine was invented and the sales of potato chips soared.
Jean Rene LaCoste, a 19 year old Frenchman, wins in men’s singles at Wimbledon. Suzanne Lenglen wins the women's singles. Also, Bill Tilden wins the men’s singles at Forest Hills and Helen Wills wins the women’s singles.
Henry Louie "Lou" Gerhig joins the New York Yankees. At 22, Lou Gerhig begins a 14-year career as the new first basemen. Before he joined the New York Yankees, he was a baseball star at Columbia University. See Lou Gerhig Pictures

Al Capone took over as boss of a Chicago bootlegging mob. Al Capone not only controlled bootlegging but he also controlled prostitution, gambling and the Chicago dance-hall business. While he was doing this, his partners were making him very rich by smuggling gallons of whiskey and rum into the United States.
Isadore Einstein and Moe Smith were probation agents in the 1920s. They were finally dismissed after making 4392 arrests in less than 5 years and they also had a 95% rate of conviction. Both men are in their mid-forties and they both weigh less than 225 pounds. They were also about 5 feet 7 inches tall. The way they antagonized their superiors was by getting too much personal publicity for their ingenious and successful strategies for apprehending Prohibition law violators.
Adolf Hitler published a book by the name of Mein Kampf. Mein Kampf means "my battle" in German.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is published.

Scotch Tape is invented to help auto painters do a two-tone paint job on cars.
