1910 was the beginning of a new decade. It is
time of great change. The United States has 1,000 miles of concrete road, up
from 144 in 1900. Eight out of ten African Americans still live in the 11
states of the Old Confederacy, but that will change with a "great
migration" that will see 2 million blacks move North. Seventy percent of
U.S. bread is baked at home, down from 80 percent in 1890. Women in Washington
State gain the right to vote in a constitutional amendment adopted November 8.
The Tango is the new dance craze.
On February 8 The
Boy Scouts of America is founded.
Father's
Day first celebrated on June 19 in Spokane, Washington.

Penn
