1903 was a time when many interesting events took place. Theodore Roosevelt was President of the United States during this time. People started to experiment with new ideas, and many of these ideas worked very well. People all over benefited from these ideas and the person who came up with the idea became very wealthy for it. It was these ideas that made life not the same monotonous day after day after day. It was also these ideas that inspired even better ones. Bigger buildings were built, also, people began to look towards the sky with dreams of flying. However, most importantly, people began to think, "What if this happened…or what if we did something like this?" and because of these "What if's…" many new and useful things were created in the year 1903.
- The Pacific Cable connected San Francisco with Honolulu on January 1. It also connected San Francisco and Manila on July 4. President Roosevelt sent a message from San Francisco to Manila. It was played around the world. Then it came back to the president in 12 minutes.
- On April 27 The Supreme Court agrees with the clause in the Alabama Constitution that doesn't blacks the right to vote in the case of Giles v. Harris.
- On the morning of December 17, 1903, the Wright Brothers made the first four steady, powered flights near Kitty Hawk, N.C.
- The Ingalls Building in Cincinnati was completed. It is the world's first skyscraper that has a reinforced concrete frame. It is also the first concrete building that is taller than 2 stories.
- Florida obtained the Everglades swamp. It was the biggest location ever conveyed in a one patent given by the U.S. Land Department.
- President Roosevelt designates Florida’s Pelican Island a National Wildlife Refuge. It is a sanctuary for seabirds where the birds will be safe from the hunters who hunt them.
- Caleb Bradham trademarks the name Pepsi-Cola. He sold 7,968 gallons of it in the first year.
- A packer from San Pedro puts tuna fish into cans. A major business comes from this simple action.
- "Typhoid Mary" gets her nickname when and epidemic of typhoid fever breaks out in New York. 1,300 cases were reported. The disease is traced down to Mary Mallon.
- The first World Series baseball game is played in 1903
- Panama gets independence from Colombia and construction for the Panama Canal began.
- The Ford Motor Company was established.
- "Waltzing Matilda" by Marie Cowan was also a popular song.
- Sweet Adeline by Henry W. Armstrong was a popular song.
