Jim Thorpe was born in 1888 on May 28 in Oklahoma.  He was a Native American. He was born on a ranch. He and his twin were good at bareback riding on ponies when they were three. When the twins were 7, they had to go to a boarding school 23 miles away. Jim went to the Haskell Institute. He met the star of the football team. He showed Jim how to play football. Then Jim got on a team. When Jim was 12, his mom died and he went home to help on the ranch. Finally, in 1907 he went back to school and he got on the varsity team and Jim was the star of that team. In the spring Jim was on a track team and played on a baseball team. In the summer of 1912 he went to the Olympics and won 2 gold medals. He was the greatest athlete of all time! Jim died in 1953.
