A Portrait of
Frances Hodgson Burnett
by Carolyn

Frances H. Burnett was born on November 24, 1849 in England in a very dark, dirty city called Manchester. Frances had been interested in flowers her whole life. When Frances was 16, her family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee because her family was poor. Her brothers found jobs, but they still didn't have much money. For a long time, they lived in a log cabin. After a while, Frances started to write. Her brothers laughed. She sold her story to a magazine, then she showed her brothers the check. They never laughed at her again! Frances died October 29, 1924 in her home on Long Island.
