Hudson River Landscapes: Class of 2011

It was September 16, 2010 when students photographed the banks of the Hudson River in its autumn splendor from the deck of the M.V. Commander. As a follow-up, on October 5, they traveled to the Hudson River Museum and participated in Dreamy Landscapes, a workshop focused on the Hudson River School of painting. Guided by the museum staff, students examined artistic impressions of the river that is the imposing backdrop for their daily lives.

Back at school, with Mrs. Hongell’s help, students chose one of their photos as the inspiration for the work displayed here. For weeks, they mixed paint and labored over brush strokes in an effort to recreate the experience of the majestic Hudson River. Each student has put his or her indelible stamp of originality on a creative work of art which we proudly share with you.

So, imagine, if you will, the smell of a gentle river breeze, the sounds of the tide meeting the shore and take a cruise along the Hudson River, courtesy of the Class of 2011.
