In 1848, gold was found in Sutter’s Mill. This is how it happened. James Marshall noticed something shinny and yellow in the water. Everyone wanted the gold, so they packed up their bags and left. This sometimes caused entire villages to clear. Some "forty-niners" went along the Oregon Trail. It was a long, hard journey west. Many "forty-niners" died. Some "forty-niners" even turned back. Many were determined, and never turned back. "Forty-niners" had to cross rivers and mountains, to get too the gold. There was no easy way to get too the gold! All survivors had a great deal of celebrating to do! They had made it to California. Many a man’s dream had come true……….. People dreamed sleeplessly, of getting rich the next day. The first day of gold searching, every one found riches! "Forty-niners" searched under water and in the mud. This pumped many riches into America. In 1848, gold was in Sutter’s Mill.
