Sam Houston was the first President of Texas.
In 1845 Texas joined the United States, now it was called the Lone Star State.

In 1821 Mexico won its freedom from Spain. After that Americans began to
settle and then they began to revolt against Mexicans. In 1835, Texan Americans
overthrew the Texas government because they did not like the laws and
religions. At the
Battle of the Alamo, a general named Santa Anna brought
an army of 600 men that climbed the fort and killed all of the
Americans. Soon after the Americans won a very important battle. There were many people
during this war such as General Santa Anna who was sent by
Mexico to
fight off the Americans and Sam Houston who led the Americans to a
wonderful win. Many
important and brave people died at places such as the banks of the San
Jacinto River, Fort Alamo and near President Houston's house. Though
America lost a lot of battles, it won the war.
