200 Americans defended the fort called The Alamo
During the 1800ís there was a battle between the Texans and the Mexicans because the Texans rebelled against the Mexicans laws. The battle of 1836 resulted in Texas becoming The Lone Star Republic.
The war began during the 1820ís, when Mexico invited the Americans to settle in Texas. In 1821 Mexico won itís independence from Spain. After that in 1836 American settlers in Texas territory rebelled against Mexico because they didnít want to follow Mexican rules. All of the Texan defenders were killed in the battle of San Jacinto. All of the 187 Texas fighters were killed in the battle of San Jacinto. But fortunately, Texas won itís independence from Mexico. But itís not over yet, Mexico sends General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna to the town of San Antonio. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna brought 6,000 troops to stop Texas rebels, 200 Americans defended the fort called The Alamo. They fought for over two weeks finally Santa Anna won by killing all the defenders.
A month later Sam Houston lead the Americans to an important victory by encouraging them to "Remember the Alamo!" Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was captured and Texas became The Lone Star State.
As you can see the war killed many people that fought for their independence. The Alamo still stands in San Antonio. Everyone should go see the Alamo because it is an historical landmark which started Texas independence.
