Dear Mom and Dad,

I'm having a wonderful time in Panama. I collected as information as I could. I know you guys will love it. I rented a hotel room right next to ruins of a historical church.

In Panama they speak Spanish and some people also speak English. It’s a good thing you took those Spanish lessons Mom. The rest of the family needs to take lessons. I started taking them when I came. They use English money and balboa money.

The best part of Panama is the beautiful mountains, valleys, plains, and rain forests. They have beautiful sights to see in the nature. They have all kinds of plants in the rain forest, and beautiful waterfalls; I can't wait to show you!

It's really hot in Panama. The temperature is usually the same all year round. About 80° F, precipitation gets heavier around springtime. It gets humid in the high 50s and high 60s and sometimes the low 70s.

They have good food in Panama like corn tortillas and rice. Other foods they have are coconut, bananas, mangos, and chashews. But the desserts are just excellent. Cloves, cinnamon, raisons, and rumor Brandy. I know I don't like seafood, but I knew you guys would like it. They have fish, lobsters, shellfish, and oysters.

This morning I bought a cultural dress that women were in Panama. They usually were them on special accessions but I wanted to show you guys the dress when you come. They also were blouses. The men's clothing is pretty simple. They were white embroidered shirt a sombrero, and black designer pants.

They have many places to visit. Don't worry they have this hotel right next to the ruins of a church which is a wonderful sight to see. My favorite sight to see is to see the "Panamanian Canal". I'll tell you a little about it. The "Panamanian Canal" is both engineering marvel and one of the most significant waterways on earth.

I have been visiting the schools they have in Panama. They learn high technology and engineering. They start school at age 7 and finish at age 15.

Panama is a great place to visit, but there are down sides too. Malaria and yellow fever are the most popular illnesses in Panama. Free examinations are held. Most people have access to modern medical care. Some health centers are poorly equipped. Life ranges about 72-77. I hope we don't get any illnesses.

Just 2 weeks ago, they had this carnival, 4 days before Ash Wednesday. It involves music, dancing and a big parade. In Panama City is it was held the most. I went to Panama City to see it.

Well that's pretty much all you need to know about Panama. Keep in touch, and so long amigo!

Love,

Athena
