Dear Mom and
Dad,
I have been in Jamaica for a while and it is very interesting place to move to. I cant wait until you come and join me in Jamaica. I have picked out a city for us to stay in. It is the capital city, Kingston. I have sent a picture in my photo album.
Now, I am going to tell you what to do and say. First, I will tell you about the different foods. Most of the food is spicy, but many fruits are grown. Some of the popular foods are ackee (salt fish), curried goat, and jerk. Jerk is a spicy piece of barbecued pork or chicken. Most meals are eaten with rice and peas, sometimes with boiled green bananas or fried dumplings. I have enjoyed most of these foods, I think you will too.
You should wear light clothing most of the time. You may need a sweater in the evening. Women in Jamaica usually wear skirts or dresses. Men in Jamaica would wear western style clothing.
The people in Jamaica speak English, but it may be a little hard to understand them. Most people speak with a dialect. When you would greet someone you would bow, give a handshake or, give a slap on the back. When you first meet someone you would give them a handshake and say "Good morning" or "Good afternoon." It is very rude to start a conversation without greeting the person first. Most people in Jamaica have an outgoing personality, so it will be easy to start a conversation.
You will have to send my brother and I to school, so I might as well tell you about the schools and the education. Basic schools are ages 3 to 6. Primary schools are ages 6 to 12. Secondary schools are ages 12 to 17. Education in Jamaica is free up to the age of 12. Many of the schools require a uniform.
Now, I am going to tell you about the popular sports and the places of interest. The popular sports are cricket, netball, and football. (Soccer in America) A favorite indoor activity is dominoes. Some places that I would like to visit are Blue Mountains, Dun River Falls, and Montego Bay. Blue Mountains are the largest mountain range in the West Indies. Dun River Falls is a very popular place of interest. It is a waterfall. Montego Bay is a beach that is located in the northwestern part of Jamaica.
I have missed you a lot, and I hope that I will see you soon.
Your daughter,
Meghan
