Dear Mom and Dad,
Im here in Brazil right now and am having a great time. Dont worry about me, Im fine. Ive been traveling around looking for somewhere to live; Ive been to Recife and Brasilia but my favorite was Rio de Janeiro. I think we should live there, where the water is clear blue and fun is everywhere. It has the most beautiful scenery and carnivals galore. I've picked out a five-bedroom house for us near the coast with a garden.
You need a passport and Visa to go to Brazil. Yellow fever, typhoid, polio, and cholera immunizations are recommended. Education isnt very good, but it is free for children eight to fourteen. You should bring cloths for summer because in Rio it is always hot; and bring swimsuits!
Ill tell you some customs as not to seem rude. Brazilians eat in continental style. They greet with handshakes to embrace friends, but women often kiss each other on alternating cheeks. Common terms are Tudo Bien (Is everything fine?); Como Vai (How are you?); Oi (Hi); Tchau (Good-bye); and Ate logo (See you soon).
You should not try Brazil's special meals because they're disgusting! Some are made with blood and pig's ears and tails. You should eat the normal meals- breakfast usually consists of coffee with milk, bread, cheese or marmalade, and butter. Lunch and dinner consists of beans, rice, meat, salad, fruit, potatoes, and bread (foods are often flavored with a spicy palm oil).
You might want to visit some places like taking a tour down the Amazon River and looking at the animals, to swim or sunbathe at Rio Beach, to watch a performance at the huge opera house, Teatro Amazonas, or just stay home and relax.
As for jobs, you can stay doctors. The Brazilians will keep you busy because they are always getting diseases. Small pox, malaria, yellow fever, plague, influenza, dysentery, measles, hookworm, schistosomiasis, polio, typhoid, and cholera are some of the health problems here in Brazil.
Cars, airplanes, ships, boats and trucks are used for transportation. Brazilians do understand Spanish but it is considered rude to speak it. The real language is Portuguese. They also understand English but you should bring a Portuguese dictionary just in case. A dollar is worth more in Brazil than in America.
Dad, you would probably like it here because it has lots of sports. Soccer, fighting, fishing, dancing, judo, mountain climbing, water skiing, underwater diving, horse racing, basketball, volleyball, boating, and swimming.
Well, that's all the information I've got to give right now. Come soon and until then, I love you.
This is your daughter,
Nuvia
