A Polar Bear's Journey

Balog.bmp (9526 bytes)It was a harsh, cold winter in the Arctic. Polar Bear families are in their dens sleeping. Mom and I were starving, and mom was going to have a baby. I need to prepare by getting food for my mom. I was walking out of our warm den, when I thought I saw a seals' breathing hole. (We wait by a seals' breathing holes and when it jumps out we catch it.) When I got over there CUPLUMP! I fell in an ice hole, I almost drowned. (We aren't very good swimmers but were ok.) While I was under I saw some fish, I grabbed them. As I was getting out I caught on to a piece of jagged ice It was really tough and slippery to get out. But the good part was that I caught some fish. (We eat seals, baby walruses, rodents, sea birds, and eggs. But we were desperate and we would eat anything.)

As I was walking home with the fish in my hand I saw a hunter, he ran after me and he grabbed the fish. As I was running back GABOOM, he almost shot me. I ran home fiercely with nothing to eat. "That was terrifying" I said to myself. When I got home I told my mom all about the terrifying story, and she said that I would never go out again. Mom said I always have backup and she got some rodents, seabirds, and eggs. I didn’t really like that stuff but we were desperate. I was glad to be sitting by the fire eating and close to my mom.
