In a large tropical rain forest in South America
near the Amazon River there lived a jaguar family. They lived in the rainforest because
they preferred living near water and had a better chance of hunting and surviving in the
forest. The family had a mother, a father, and two girls named Summer and Darrielle.
Father was strong and weighed about 200 pounds like many of the male jaguars. The mom was
not so strong but she was smart and weighed about 80 pounds like most females. One day mom
and dad told Summer, the older sister to teach her younger sister Darrielle to go out and
hunt for food.
So Summer and Darrielle decided to wait until it got dark to go hunting for their dinner, because jaguars have excellent eyesight and hearing and hunt better at night. The two sisters brought home their kill of turkeys, turtles, and small rodents, which they killed by biting off their heads. The family had a great feast because these were their favorite foods.
Since it was such a hot summer day in the rainforest mother and father Jaguar decided to go swimming in the Amazon River while their little girls were at their jaguar friend's house playing. They often spent hot days half submerged in water like many of their jaguar friends. While the mom and Dad were in the river swimming, some poachers crept up to the riverbank and shot and killed them. They did this because they could sell their fur for a lot of money.
When Summer and Darrielle got home from their friend's house, they could not find their parents. Darrielle remembered that mom and dad liked to go swimming on hot days so she told her sister that they should go look for them at the river. When the two girls got to the river they saw that their parents had been killed and their bodies were being dragged to a poachers truck. Summer and Darrielle were so angry and upset that they attacked the poachers. They scratched them in their faces and used their very strong teeth to bite off their heads. Since jaguars are forest dwellers they could not imagine their parents leaving the forest. The girls were so sad and could not understand why anyone would wear fur coats from such special animals.
