Mom and family,
Guess what El
Salvador has been great so far! You will find a lot of things that are different
from where we live and from here. I think you will like it here because there is
a lot to do and you will never be bored. The weather here is great, it is warm
and sunny just like you like it. Although it is a poor country, being here has
been quite a learning experience and I know you will like it here.
Mom I know how you worry about our health, and this is real important, so listen up! Malaria, measles, intestinal disorders, and other diseases cause people in rural areas to suffer. Urban clinics and hospitals offer better care. Mom, what I just told you is real important keep that in mind.
I know how you like taking walks and the sights in El Salvador are beautiful to explore! Did you know El Salvador is the smallest South American country? There are nearly 200 volcanoes and they are the highest points in El Salvador. I can't wait to visit one of them. Pine covered mountains lie north of San Salvador. When you all come, I know you will all enjoy discovering the land features.
Carolyn I know how much you like your sports and guess what? El Salvador is known as the sports capital. Soccer is the main sport and basketball is also a popular sport. Yesterday, we played soccer and it made me think of home. The people in El Salvador enjoy movies and music, or sometimes they just like to relax, just like we do! I know you are going to enjoy the recreation here.
Here in El Salvador, publication is very important. Few people have cars most people use buses, and taxies. The cities have paved or gravel roads that are made out of dirt. There are plenty of ways to get around and commute to work.
You might enjoy the simple lifestyle of El Salvador compared to your very busy life style. Most people do not have phones, cars, or TV's. That’s going to be hard for me because I love to watch TV. Most of what they eat includes; beans, tortillas, rice, eggs, and fruit. Many people cannot buy meat because it is expensive. That sounds like a lot of good food and when I talk about it makes me hungry.
Many people in El Salvador celebrate many festivals they would be great to go to. I am going to tell you about some of the holidays they celebrate here in El Salvador. They are New Year's, Easter Week, Labor Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day and Independence Day (September 15). A lot of these holidays sound like fun. I can't wait until you come.
Love,
Ashley
P.S. See you soon!
