Goldie
by Stephanie

One beautiful morning high in the treetops of Brazil, five little parakeets were hatched which was the most a parakeet could have. The parents, Mink and Mia were very loving and cared for their chicks more then anything. They named one Goldie who was curious and adventures, she had a wedge shaped tail, long wings, and was green, but in three months her top feathers would be gold. Goldie's parents were sad because they had just lost a daughter from a human. Mink and Mia explained to Goldie to be careful and watch out for humans because her sister had just died from one. Goldie also learned to eat fruits, seeds, nuts, small larvae, and nectar as her diet. She also learned to be clever because there was a limited amount of golden parakeets in that area, but they had relatives the parrot with about 328 types.

One afternoon when she was searching for fruits high in the treetops she felt the tree shaking, but she ignored it. Goldie had just remembered that that sound was when a tree would get cut down. This was how the Golden Parakeet became endangered, because their habitat was getting cut down. When Goldie tried to fly off, it was to late. The tree had fell to the ground, and she was on the ground. Goldie was also filthy. The human, Tom discovered her and felt sorry for Goldie because she was badly hurt. Tom was caring and kind so he took Goldie back to his hut, and took good care of her, also cleaned her up. Soon Goldie was better again, and was able to fly again. Since Tom took care of her Goldie learned all humans are not cruel.
