Almost Hit
by Kristina

A new baby manatee was born in the warm rivers of the Amazon. The newborn baby was named Ki Ki. She was cute and cuddly. Ki Ki had a grayish-brown coat and 11 white spots on her tummy. Her Mama got Ki Ki up for her first breath. She burst up in the air and dove back in the river. Then Mama fed Ki Ki with her milk under her flipper. Ki Ki's parents told her not to go near fast moving things.

Twelve Weeks Later, Poppy (Ki Ki's father) said he should teach Ki Ki what kind of sea grasses to eat. So Mama, Poppy and Ki Ki set out on searching for grasses of all kinds. While Mama and Poppy were looking for food, Ki Ki got tedious and bored. So, She wandered away. Then she went up for a breath because her 5 minutes were over and she got out of breath. She saw a wooden oval thing with creatures yelling. She decided to see what it was.

Ki Ki saw a fast moving thing, which was the propeller of the boat underwater, she could her a mmmmming sound. She was curious and went closer. Suddenly the motor moved her way! Poppy saw her and swam to her. Ki Ki was almost hit, but in that second Poppy swam to her and got hit on his back! Ki Ki screamed "NOOO" and swam to her dad. Poppy woke up later on the sandy floor saying, "It's OK, it's just a scrap". Then Poppy and Mama told her never to do it again. They swam home happily.
