In the fresh waters in lakes and rivers of South America Merrie the Amazon manatee lived. Manatees feed on plants and fruits that fall into the water. One day while Merrie was eating seaweed and mango that fell into the water, she saw a boat and another manatee being killed by the boat. Then Merrie swam as fast as she could with her flat tail, over to her mother and said, " Would another boat kill another manatee?"

Then Merrie's mother said, " Yes, most likely and around here a lot." Merrie's mother was right. From then on Merrie the manatee saw a lot of boats.

Since her skin color was gray and she looked like a rock. Next she said, "I can be like a rock when ever I see a boat." And that’s what she did. After a while it didn't work, so she decided to tell her mother it was time to move away where there were not so many boats.

After a long discussion they thought it would be an excellent idea. So the next morning they left on the long journey to the coast of Florida. They took their time and stopped to eat about every three hours.

They finally got to the tip of Florida. There weren't any boats. They were happy, so from then on they stayed until they died. They also lived a happy life for the rest of there life.
