The Lost Way
by Jennifer

A hunter was chasing Blacky! Blacky and his parents were running as fast as they could through the forest until Blacky tripped and fell down, but he was not hurt. Unfortunately, his parents did not realize that he tripped and they kept on going. When Blacky got up and tried to follow them, he went the wrong way and ended up lost.

While feeling scared and shivering he started looking for his way home. Blacky did not look carefully, since he was thinking what on earth hit him, as he banged into another ferret named Thunder. Thunder was Blacky’s lookalike they looked like a robber that was cute. After Blacky told him that he lost his parents, he started to cry. Thunder was thinking of how he could help Blacky find his parents.

Blacky and Thunder started looking all over the Gobi desert in Asia. They were so tired that when they found some soft sand, they decided to make it their bed and they slept throughout the night. BOOM! The hunters were back! Blacky and Thunder hid under the pile of sand and the hunters passed them without seeing them. They waited a while and ran in the opposite direction of the hunters.

They still heard noises and looked around, but saw nothing. Then the noise came again, this time they were frightened because the noise was so strange and scary. They ran super fast through the desert, and didn’t stop until they found a wounded prairie dog at the stream. They attacked the animal, ate and drank the water from the stream. Then they went back to sleep in the colorful bright orange and yellow sand.

They woke up to the cry of a ferret. It sounded like a broken down car. Blacky knew it was his mom's cry. So they began to look around and saw a brownish gray tail poking out from a metal cage. They tried to open it, but it had a lock and they could not open the lock. They noticed that the cage was on a car so they pushed it off. The hunters were woken up by the sound of the crashing cage, as it hit the ground and they noticed the ferrets.

The chase was on, again and the ferrets knew they had to outsmart the hunters.

Hey decided to build a trap, and use vines to catch and tie the hunters to a tree. They gathered all their materials while the hunters were getting their guns. The trap was ready, and as the hunters approached the tree, Blacky and Thunder pulled the rope vine, which made the hunters fall against the tree. Once they were against the tree, both ferrets ran circles around the hunters, tying them to the tree, with the vine. It was time now, to save Blacky’s mother from the cage. Thunder saw the keys to the lock hanging from one of the hunter's pockets, so he climbed his leg and reached for the keys. Before leaving, he gave the hunter a scratch on his face and left a scar bearing the letters B&T as a symbol of victory.

After unlocking the cage, Blacky, Thunder, and Blacky’s parents, decided to celebrate their victory. They did what they like to do best, run around the stream and just be playful.
