The New York Giants played their first home football game
in New York City on October of 1925. They lost! The first owner of the team,
Tim Mara, bought the Giants for $500. They did not make a lot of money in
the first ten years but they did win a Championship in 1927. Mr. Mara lost a
lot of money in the Stock Market crash and gave the team to his two young
sons; Jack Mara was 22 years old and Wellington Mara was only 14 years old!
That made Wellington Mara the youngest owner of any football team. He was
part owner until he died in 2005. Some of the Giants most famous
players played in the 1950s including Kyle Rote and Frank Gifford.
The Giants have won the Super Bowl three times, 1987, 1991, and
February 3, 2008! The best part about Super Bowl XLII was the
winning catch on a pass from Eli Manning to Plaxico Burress with 35
seconds left on the clock.
