The Declaration of Independence
by Kayla & Alex

The Declaration of Independence is a written letter. It was signed by 56 men including John Adams, Sam Adams, and John Hancock. The person who wrote the Declaration of Independence was Thomas Jefferson. It was written so people could get their Independence. It was signed on July 4, 1776 when it was finish. If the colonies had lost the war all the people that helped with the Declaration of Independence would have been hanged because they were helping the colonists. The document was used by the 13 British North American colonies to get their independence from Great Britain. That was rightfully theirs. In the Declaration of Independence it says something that everybody should know, it is one of the best things Jefferson wrote, "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal; that are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Other colonists like Benjamin Franklin, the Continental Congress, Roger Sherman and Robert Livingston were also involved. Their have been many reasons why the people had Thomas Jefferson make the Declaration of Independence, some are that the people wanted their independence and another was to be free of Great Britain and the taxes. Everybody should hold those words that Thomas Jefferson wrote because every word of it is true. Did you know there are words on the back of the Declaration of Independence? This is also why we have Flag Day and the 4 of July. I hope you had fun reading this and you liked learning more about it. Also you can do a word search. Have fun!
