Rays and Skates
By Emily

There are over 500 different types of rays and skates. They are all very different in the way they look and live and hunt. They don’t have any bones only cartilage. Their skeleton is made of cartilage. They are carnivores and eat fish, Mollusks and worms. They stick to hunting either near or on the bottom of the ocean. Rays are very intelligent animals, maybe even smarter than sharks. They are very curious animals. Sometimes they’ll come up to a diver and simply watch what they are doing. They defend themselves by using their whip like tail to kill their enemies. Some sting their enemies with a poisonous stinging tail. They use camouflage by lying on the sea bed as another great defense.
