MANATEES
By Claire

Manatees are relatives to elephants. All of their fat keeps them warm. They live in Florida. And they eat sea grass and water plants. Manatees are endangered species because people kill them for food. Sailors used to think they were mermaids maybe because of the way they move through the water. Manatees can weigh as much as 1,100 pounds.
