Joannie Rochette

How would you feel if your mother died of a heart attack before the most important competition of your life? Joannie Rochette is a very strong and fascinating figure skater. She was born on January 13, 1986, in Montréal, Quebec. Her hometown is Île Dupas. She started skating when she was 6 years old. She does not have any siblings she only has her dad. Her mother, Therese Rochette, died from a sudden heart attack two days before her first big skating performance in the 2010 Olympics.

Her family did not have a lot of money. Both her parents had to work very hard to pay for all her skating lessons and costumes.

She skates in the Senior Ladies Category, her height is5'2''(157 cm), the club that she practices in is CPA Berthierville. Her training is in St-Leonard (QC.)  Her coach is Manon Perron and her choreographers are Shae-Lynn Bourne & Lori Nichole.

Joannie won the 2000 Canadian Figure Skating Championships on the Novice Level. She is the 2010 bronze medalist, the 2009 World silver medalist, the 2008 and 2009 Four Continents silver medalists, the 2004 Grand Prix Final bronze medalist and the six time (2005-10) Canadian National Champion. As of March 2010, she was ranked 4th in the world!
