I would like to tell you about her. Her whole name is Mrs. Martha Wayles Skelton Jefferson. She was born in 1748. Martha and Thomas were married on New Year's Day in 1772. Martha was 24 years old when she married Thomas. Thomas felt very strong love for Martha. There was great love between them. They had their first child named Martha in September. In a few years they had five more children. Of all of them 2 lived. The frequent pregnancies weakened Martha. So Mr.Jefferson shortened his activities to stay with her. Martha got better. When a British invasion came Martha was forced to go back to the capital in Richmond with her new baby girl who died in April. She had another daughter the following May, and never recuperated her strength. She was a wonderful lady and I am glad I told you about her.
