Terry Hongell

    Terry Hongell was born in Fredrick, Maryland. Terry's mother Ruth, was from Jay, Maine and her father was Albert was from Athens, Georgia. They met during World War II at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland, they were both sergeants in the Army. They settled in Maryland. Her mother and father worked as cancer researchers. Terry has one brother named Steve who lives in Arizona. 

    As a child she lived in Fredrick, Maryland and she loved to ride her bike to the pool on the Army post. She went to school at the Visitation Academy; it was a school just for girls. In school, her favorite subject was math. As she grew up she worked as a lifeguard, a swimming instructor and a counselor at a camp. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Terry got her Masters in Early Childhood Education at the University of Maryland. 

    She taught kindergarten for 3 years in Walkersville, Maryland and 3 more years in Woodbridge, VA. Later she became a computer teacher at Pocantico Hills School, in Sleepy Hollow, NY. Terry Hongell also works for the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA as an Online Museum Educator. 

   Terry was married to her husband Andy who works for the IBM Corporation. Terry has 2 children, a son and a daughter.  Terry said she likes being a computer teacher but there are days when things are not going well with the computers that she wished she was walking on a beach somewhere. She began working as a computer teacher in 1995 and still works here. 

    In her spare time she likes to watch Pocantico soccer games and her favorite baseball team, the Mets. She also works on the school's website and enjoys The West Wing and Law and Order. Terry's favorite book is Exodus. Her favorite color is yellow. Terry has won a lot of awards. Here are three important awards, Who's Who Among American Teachers, Pioneer Award for Web design, Presidential Award for Reading and Technology. Well I hope you enjoyed learning about Terry Hongell.
