HOME

Many adventurous Americans moved west in the 1800’s for many reasons. Some went to find opportunity, while others saw it as a chance to make a better living than in the cities. No matter the reason, many of these pioneers were on a path that changed the United States. After difficult journeys west many settled in the Great Plains or over the Rocky Mountains in California or Oregon. Once in their new home, the challenges continued.  Settlers needed to build homes, communities and create relationships with their new neighbors, Native Americans. The following stories tell the story of how these Americans adapted to their new lives. Click on a link on the left to read a story.
