| At the beginning of the year, Mrs. Taverna wrote letters to us on the
board. Feras The first book we wrote in second grade was called Summer Memories. Brett When we were learning about questions, we got to ask Mrs. Taverna anything we wanted to know about her. Clare We wrote books about ourselves called Everything You Need To Know About Me. Shakia We pretended to be Henry and Mudge. Henry asked Mudge questions and then Mudge asked Henry questions. Luis

Mr. Steele came in to talk to our class about conflict resolution.
We talked about how to solve problems. Billy After we read the story Luka's Quilt which took place in Hawaii, we made islands with volcanoes out of clay. Dana We did a play about the first Thanksgiving for our kindergarten buddies. Gabe One day Mr. Lisi came in and did math word problems with us Mrs. Wilson came on the loudspeaker. We wrote word problems about our school helpers. It was really fun because Mr. Lisi taught us. Gordon We wrote letters to our friends to explain how to regroup. Sotiti We wrote letters to Mr. Smith, our crossing guard, when he was sick. Brittany We pretended we were a humpback whale named Henry and wrote journal entries about being lost in N.Y. Harbor. I liked it because we were the whale. Tyler We read lots of good biographies. Tyler |
| We saw plays about Thomas Edison and Harriet Tubman. Sammy We did lots of research about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad and we made a website. Jia Jia We went to the planetarium at the Hudson River Museaum and learned about the drinking gourd. Anna Mrs. Taverna doesn't like the word "nice." She says there are other really better describing words than that. Gordon |

We tricked Mrs. Taverna on April Fool's Day. Mrs. McCann helped
us It was fun. Kenny On Wacky Hair Day some boys put rubber bands in their hair. They looked like clowns. Jesse We learned about worm habitats and made wormeries in science lab. Sarah We read the book, saw the play and the movie, Charlotte's Web. We never wanted the story to end. Feras We wrote time jouirnals and then made our own class magazine. Anna

| We helped Mrs. Rollman's first grade make tangram dinosaurs. There are 7
tangrams: 5 triangles, 1 square and 1 rhombus. Sarah We read a story called the Best Friends Club. Then we made up our own clubs and made big posters with our rules. Clare We went on a hike with Mrs. Fitzgerald's Class. It was fun. We saw snake holes. Sammy Our password was "banana." It was our secret class word because Mrs. Taverna likes to eat bananas for snack. Gabe Mrs. Taverna always told us to READ! READ! READ! Billy |
