Scholarship Opportunities

The information included in this list was submitted to the guidance office for your review and information.  We do not endorse any of these scholarships.  We suggest you research them before applying.

 

The following scholarships require application and admission to the college and/or university

 

 

v     SUNY College at Brockport: Extensive Scholarship Program- visit www.brockport.edu/scholarships

 

v     The Robertson Scholars Program (Duke University and/or UNC Chapel Hill): Based on leadership, academic achievement, demonstrate behavior that is grounded in ethical principles, community service, and collaborative spirit.  Must apply to and be accepted to either university.  Deadline is same as application deadline.  Award amount is full tuition plus room, board and fees.

 

v     Saint Anslem College:  Demonstrated rigor of high school curriculum, GPA, SAT/ACT scores, extra curricular activities.  Deadline is same as college application deadline.  Award amount $3,500-$12,500.

 

v     Denison College:  Call 1-800-Denison for details.  Deadline is same as college application deadline.  Award amount $2, 000-$3,400.

 

v     R.I.T. Merit Scholarships – Visit guidance office to view pamphlet or visit www.rit.edu/financialaid

 

v     Randolph College – Academic Scholarships recognize students who have attained a high level of scholarship and exhibited talent and strong citizenship.  With the exception of the highest level of awards – the Presidential Scholars Program – your completed application for admission automatically enters you for consideration.

 

v     East Stroudsburg University – Reduced Out-of-State Tuition Scholarship for

students majoring in Mathematics, The Sciences, or Technology. 570-422-3542

v     Alfred State College – Many scholarships available. For more information:

v     Alfred University Scholarships – AU is committed to providing a very competitive scholarship program.  If you are a strong academic student or a leader in and out of the classroom, we have a variety of scholarships that will interest you.  The office of admissions’ committee on academic excellence awards all scholarships.  To be considered for any of AU scholarships, you must complete the entire admission application process and then your file will be forwarded to the committee.

 

v     Assumption College – The Assumption Presidential Scholars Program was established to provide scholarships based on academic merit.  Monies given through this Program reflect the College’s commitment to upholding a campus culture that champions academic excellence and student leadership.

v     Boston University – Several BU scholarships require no special application process beyond the submission of an application.  The Board of Admissions chooses recipients for scholarships based on academic achievement, leadership, special talents and other personal accomplishments.  For further info on all scholarships offered visit www.bu.edu/finaid or 617-353-2965

 

v     C.W. Post Scholarships for Academic Excellence-

Valedictorian/Salutatorian Scholars Award-1300(old SAT) or 1950(new SAT) or 29 or better (ACT) $19,000 per year

University Scholars Award – 92% or better GPA, 1300 (old SAT) or 1950 (new SAT), or 29 or better (ACT) $18,000 per year

Academic Excellence Award – 90% or better GPA, 1200 (old SAT) or 1800 (new SAT) or 27 or better (ACT) $13,000-$15,000 per year

Academic Incentive Award – 85-88% or better GPA, 1100(old SAT) or 1650(new SAT) or 24 or better (ACT) $11,000-$12,000

v     The Ventures Scholars Program: Students should identify themselves as members of an underrepresented minority group (African American/Black, American Indian/Native American, or  Hispanic/Latino/a) AND/OR identify themselves as first generation college-bound students. v     Vietnam Veterans of America – Vietnam Veterans of America Westchester County Chapter 49 is pleased to announce their annual scholarship awards application program.  There will be a 600.00 award for each of the following scholarships: the Pete Lambert Memorial Scholarship, the Congressman Hamilton Fish Jr. Memorial Scholarship, the Peter T. McCauley Memorial Scholarship, the Anthony Shine Memorial Scholarship, the Jonathan Shine Memorial Scholarship, and the William Suddereth Memorial Scholarship.

 

Students of Westchester County high schools, who are graduating this year, are children or grandchildren of veterans who served on active duty in any branch of the military during any war or peacetime, and will be attending an accredited U.S. college/university or technical/vocational school are eligible to apply.

v     American Red Cross in Westchester – 9th Annual Dr. Jerome Holland Youth Scholarship Contest – In celebration of the humanitarian achievements of Dr. Jerome Holland the American Red Cross in Westchester County in partnership with Consolidated Edison, Inc. is offering a scholarship contest for Westchester County High School Seniors.

 

Students who have demonstrated commitment through community service and a B+ overall grade point average are some of the requirements along with a recommendation from a school counselor.  For more information, visit the Guidance office.

 

v     The New York Water Environment Association will be offering a total of six $1,500 scholarships.

 

Two (2) to children of NYWEA members.

Two (2) to students enrolled at a college or university where there is a NYWEA student chapter.

Two (2) to high school students who will be enrolled in an environmentally related program in a four year college or university.

Students can win up to $25,000 for college.

 

v     Monsanto Imagine – Commitment to Agricultural Scholarship ProgramOne-time awards of $1,500 will be made to 100 high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in an agriculture-related field.  Applications available online at www.monsanto.com or www.ffa.org.

 

 

v     Westchester & Putnam Counties Association of Town Superintendents of Highways, Inc.  Intended major in the field of Public Works, Operations and/or Management including Highway Operations, Engineering and Environmental Studies. Application available in the Guidance office.

 

 

v     Guardian – 2008 Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Award Program-

An opportunity to win $1,000 to $10,000.

Guardian grants cash prizes to girls who demonstrate budding entrepreneurship;

taking the first steps toward financial independence; and making a difference in their schools and communities.

Nominees must submit a personal statement of no more than 250 words and a 750-word letter of endorsement from an adult—parent, teacher, mentor.

 

v     Taconic Road Runners Club believes that young people who are involved in the sport of running experience a healthy lifestyle and a high level of energy and self-confidence.

In the spirit of a healthy race, graduating seniors are invited to apply for a $1,000 scholarship.  Four scholarships will be awarded.

 

The application should consist of:

 

·        an essay (approx. 300 words) on how running has affected your life;

·        evidence of admission to a post-secondary school;

·        letter of recommendation from a school faculty member;

·        any other information regarding your commitment to running that you would like us to consider.

v     Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation –

The Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation Scholarship is being offered to assist

students who have been affected by breast cancer in some way.

The application can be downloaded form the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation Web site at www.milesofhopebcf.org or the Community Foundation of Dutchess County’s Web site at www.cfdcny.org.

 

 

v     WFAS & UniStar Federal Credit Union-  “Student of the Year” Scholarship

Applicants must be graduating seniors who are well-rounded, community oriented

and most importantly, working to the best of their capabilities.  Applications are available in Guidance or visit www.unistarfcu.org.  Deadline 6/6/08.

 

v     Boys & Girls Clubs – Marsha Brady Tucker Memorial Scholarship

Applications available in Guidance Office

 

v     BP Community Scholarships to Qualifying High School Seniors-

BP America Inc. along with the independent men and women who own and operate

BP retail locations are providing $1,500 scholarships to a limited number of qualifying

High school seniors. Visit their website at www.bpscholarships.org to download an application form.

 

v     US Navy NROTC Scholarship Program https://nrotc.navy.mil

Navy Recruiting District New York is ready to assist students on their ON-LINE

APPLICATION to the NAVY’S ROTC SCHOLARHIP PROGRAM, which is valued up to $180,000.  High School Juniors are eligible to apply in the spring of their junior year.   Visit website for further details.

 

 

 

 

 

 

v     Making It Count! “Winning Characteristics” Scholarship –

Making It Count will offer one national, $5,000 and 5 regional, $1,000 one-time award

scholarships to high school seniors who have participated in the Making College &

Career Count presentation between January 1, 2008 – June 13, 2008 and who can

exhibit excellence based on the “Winning Characteristics” highlighted in the program.

 

Winners must use the scholarship money to aid in the continuing development of their

“Winning Characteristics” after high school in the setting of college, vocational school,

technical school or any other type of career training program.
