PLEASANTVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL FIFTH GRADE ORCHESTRA ORCHESTRA DIRECTOR: Mary Ann Meade
COURSE DESCRIPTION Fifth Grade Orchestra is a continuation of the curriculum in instrumental performance begun in 3rd and 4th grades. Students attend weekly orchestra rehearsals and lessons in order to further develop musicianship and other skills such as personal discipline and working cooperatively with their director and fellow orchestra members.
ORCHESTRA REHEARSAL SCHEDULE AND CONCERT DATES Fifth Grade Orchestra rehearses each Wednesday morning in the Orchestra Room, 1st Period. Lesson groups meet weekly on a rotational basis. Each student will receive a schedule and is responsible for remembering to bring their instrument and music books to school on rehearsal and lesson days. Please note concert dates on your calendar and expect dress rehearsals to be scheduled two days in advance (do not plan doctor appointments, etc. on those days). It is very important that every student attends.
SCHEDULED CONCERT DATES: · WINTER CONCERT: Thursday, December 6, 2007; 7:30 P.M., PHS Auditorium · Festival of Strings: Wednesday, March 19, 2008, 7:30 P.M., PHS Auditorium · SPRING CONCERT: Wednesday, June 4, 2008; 7:30 P.M., PHS Auditorium
COURSE REQUIREMENTS Orchestra is an elective course, which is part of the regular school curriculum. Students attending school on any given day are expected to be present in their first period class. Please do not schedule extra help or health appointments during this time and make every effort to be prompt. For reasons of safety, any unexcused absence must be reported. Students will need to bring a note from their parent(s) for any unexcused lateness or absence. Each orchestra student is expected to: 1. Attend all rehearsals and lessons on time and ready to play. 2. Be prepared to play with instrument and music. 3. Improve instrumental technique and musical skills through practicing. 4. Perform in all concerts. 5. Cooperate fully with the director and fellow instrumentalists. A student’s grade for this course will be based upon meeting these course requirements.
Working together as a team of students, parents and teacher, we look forward to a rewarding and successful year in the Orchestra. ORCHESTRA SIGNATURE FORM (Please detach, sign and return to Mrs. Meade at the next class. Keep the first page for your records.)
