Welcome to a Board of Education Meeting

The Pleasantville Board of Education invites you to attend its meetings and participate in the educational affairs of our District. We value your input as we strive to provide our children with a meaningful educational experience and to prepare them to be caring and responsible citizens.

STRUCTURE OF THE BOARD

The Board of Education is the official policy-making body of the School District. Your Board consists of five members: residents elected at large by District voters to three-year unpaid terms of office. The first meeting in July is the annual organizational meeting, at which time the Board elects its President and Vice-President. The President presides at all Board Meetings.

MEETINGS

Board Meetings are held twice a month on Tuesday evenings in the High School Information Center at 7:30 P.M. unless otherwise posted. Meetings may be held on other days as the need arises. Agendas are available to the public at meetings, at the District Office and on the school’s website -

www.pleasantvilleschools.com

- one day prior to the meeting date. The Mount Pleasant Library and each school building also post the agendas.

Regularly joining Board members are the Superintendent of Schools, the District Clerk and the Business Administrator. Others may be invited to sit with the Board while making a presentation, providing information or during a work session.

Each meeting provides at least two opportunities when District residents may comment to the Board. These are called "Recognition of the Audience" and occur after the "Reports" section of the meeting and after the " Business Affairs" section. If you wish to address the Board, please come to the podium and state your name and address for the record.

All meetings are held in public for the audience to observe. An executive session may be held before, during or after a public meeting to discuss matters involving personnel, litigation, negotiations, or other matters as allowed under state education law. Attendance at these sessions is limited to Board members and any other person whose presence the Board deems necessary for the discussion. All official business, however, is enacted in public session.

The District broadcasts Board of Education meetings, school events, and other related programs on its educational cable channel 77.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

As the official policy-making body for the District and as your elected representatives, the Board welcomes your comments, concerns and questions. You may correspond directly with the Board via mail addressed to the Board of Education, Pleasantville Union Free School District, 60 Romer Avenue, Pleasantville, New York 10570 or by email at
