HOLA TODOS!!

Spanish 3

Spanish 3 will follow the outline provided by the New York State Standards.  Upon completion of the third level, students will take the Spanish Regents in June.  As part of the writing  and speaking composites, students will do various works.

Journal – Once every quarter students will be given four entries to write in their books.   After the fourth one, their books will be collected and a grade will be given.  All journal work will be graded out of 100%.

Speaking – Students will present once every quarter a skit utilizing various aspects learned in the lesson. The skits will be graded out of 100%.

Spanish 3H

Spanish 3H will follow the outline provided by the New York State Standards.  Students will take the Spanish Regents in January. The grade received will be their midterm exam grade.  No other midterm for Spanish will be given. Upon completion of the Regents, Spanish 4 will be introduced and the final will be based on level 4 work only.  Various works will be given throughout the quarter in order for students to excel in their abilities.

Reading Comprehension and Writing – Both of these will be the major focus for September and October. Students will better their comprehension and writing skills through utilizing new vocabulary words learned.

Spanish 4

Spanish 4 is a culmination of all grammar learned up to date.  Students have numerous opportunities to express their knowledge of Spanish.  Many individual and cooperative group presentations take place for every chapter.  Students enjoy “seeing” and “hearing” the amount of Spanish they know. Yet, at times a few exceptional grammatical points will be explained.

Tape Recording- Once every quarter, students will be given a journal entry to be done on a tape.  The length and entry will vary depending on the lesson.  The tape will be listened to and given a grade out of 100%.  Of course the entry must be done entirely in Spanish.

Una Hija SingularThis will be the first of many cooperative works the students will do with Literature.   Group and individual grades will be issued depending on the task.

Spanish 5

Students who have excelled in previous years are in Spanish 5, which is equivalent to a second year College course.  Their knowledge and background continue to improve in order to achieve complete success in the future with language.  Spanish 5 will be for many the stepping-stone for Spanish AP.  Students come prepared not only to learn but also to discuss entirely in Spanish various Literature works.

Sueno de AmericaWill be the novel used to appreciate the Spanish language and comprehend the Spanish life style.  Upon completion of this novel, students will research one aspect and present to the class their findings.  This will be their fourth quarter average grade.

Spanish AP

Students who have excelled not only in the classroom but also out in the world are in Spanish AP.  Students will follow an extremely rigorous program to obtain the grade deserved on the AP exam.  The AP exam takes place May 8, 2002 in the morning.  Much preparation will be done so that students will feel comfortable at that time.  The midterm is a compiled exam of previous exams given by the College Board.  This enables the student and myself to see what must be done to improve their grade.  Much work must be completed independently at home.

Essays- Will be given twice a month to better the flow of thoughts for a 200-word essay.  Topics range form thoughts to instructions to personal opinions.

T.V. – Spanish TV must be watched at least twice a month and a 50-word summary must be handed in the following day.  This improves students hearing to different accents and pronunciations.

Speaking- A language can only be known by being used.  Students must express themselves at all times in Spanish.  Fear must no longer be an element.

Novel- A Spanish novel must be chosen by the end of October.  Once picked, please inform me so I can approve the novel.  Students will read the novel on their own and present it to the class after the AP exam for their fourth quarterfinal grade.
