This
course will provide students with an introduction to concepts in algebra and

procedures. Students will apply concepts to problem solving and communicate
mathematics through written expression. This curriculum is aligned with the New
York State Standards and will prepare students for the State Assessment in
March.

Appropriate student behavior is expected at all times. Students are also
expected to be in class on time and prepared to learn. Materials and homework
should be brought to class daily.

To be
brought to class everyday:
1" red binder (separated into two sections - class work and
homework)
Loose leaf paper
Folders
Assignment pad
Pencils
Textbook
Supplies used throughout the year:
Protractor
Graph paper

Homework:
Homework will be assigned regularly, reinforcing the day’s lesson. It must be
completed in pencil. Students will receive a grade that is determined by the
number of completed homeworks that are done. Students will lose homework credit
if it is incomplete (not all the questions have been attempted or necessary work
is not shown). Homework missed due to absence is expected to be completed in a
timely manner.
Grading Policy:
All
tests and quizzes will be announced. Any grade below a 70% will be sent home
for a parent/guardian signature. The points students receive for the quarter
will determine quarter grades. For example:
Points
achieved: 335
Possible points: 380
Average: 335/380 = 0.8815 = 88%
Extra Help:
Extra
help will be offered weekly. The day and time will be posted.
Communication:
Communication is vital in order to ensure a successful school year.
Communication will be provided throughout the year through progress reports,
report cards, phone calls, conferences, test/quiz signatures, and notes home.
