Classroom Expectations:

It is very important for each student to be prepared for class and on time.  Respect for the teacher and fellow students is expected.  Students are required to show all work when appropriate and participation in class is encouraged.  Class rules will follow P.A.W.S. (Positive, Accountable, Well-Mannered, Safe)

Homework:

Written homework is assigned 3 - 4 times a week.  It is important that each student complete the given assignment(s), as homework is checked daily and reviewed in class.  It is highly encouraged that the students show their work and are prepared to share their thinking with the class during this time.  Homework should take anywhere between 15 - 20 minutes to complete.

Extra Help:

Students are asked to stay for extra help during activity period (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday).  Other arrangements can be made such as lunch time or early morning if needed.

How can you help?

  • Please check their assignment pads.  I ask that they write everything down at the beginning of each class (even if there is no HW).
  • Assist with homework if necessary and encourage neat, organized work at all times (scrap paper).
  • Inform the teacher of any concerns / problems
  • Sign tests and quizzes

Progress Reporting:

Phone Calls / e-mail

Progress Report Sheet

Unit tests/quizzes will be sent home to be signed (approx. 5 / quarter).  This will help keep parents informed of their child’s current status.

Grading Policy and Procedures:

Assessments take the form of quizzes, tests, homework, projects, class participation, and teacher observation.  Test grades will be weighed twice when averaging a final quarter grade.  Project grades are similar to quiz grades, as they are both weighed once when calculating an average.

(85% Tests/Quizzes, 10% Personal Responsibility, 3% Evidence of Critical Thinking, 2% Motivation/Initiative)

Authentic Assessment:

  • Scoring sheets or rubrics may be used for various assignments.  Students will be encouraged to review the rubric so that they know what is expected.
  • Average grades will be calculated by the students at the end of each quarter as an additional way to implement their math skills into every day situations.
