INTRODUCTION

Mahopac Middle School is located in Putnam County, New York, about sixty miles north of New York City. Sharing the secondary campus with Mahopac High School, the Middle School houses a student body of approximately 1100 students arranged in interdisciplinary teams in grades six, seven, and eight.

Project Adventure was initiated in the Middle School in 1989 at an entry level, while the High and Low Rope Courses were built in the fall of 1992. The construction of all elements was done by Project Adventure Inc., and is an ongoing process.

In October of 1993, the Ropes Course underwent a safety inspection, conducted by Mr. Richard Hohlstein of Project Adventure, who found the course to be in excellent condition. In January of 1995, the entire Project Adventure Program of the Mahopac Middle School was evaluated for National Accreditation, and subsequently given National Accreditation in March of 1995.
