STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
The Mahopac Public Schools Project Adventure Program is designed to provide participants an opportunity to acquire and to practice essential life skills and to enhance self-esteem.
Participants in the program learn to solve problems, make decisions, set goals and develop communication skills in an atmosphere that is challenging, supportive, and fun. In this environment, participants begin:
A. To appreciate their personal strengths and weaknesses
B. To respect and value differences within a group
C. To be involved in the resolution of conflicts
D. To trust in themselves and in others.
Participants are encouraged to take reasonable risks which are essential components in the development of self-esteem.
Participant responses to the affects of the challenges are elicited through a directed, and often open-ended, debriefing session. Each experience is designed to help participants to realize their personal identity and to transfer their newly learned skills and confidence to their daily lives.
