FRAMING TO CLOSURE

Framing to closure is an extension of the experience where an activity is briefed and framed, experienced, and then debriefed.

Framing: The instructor sets up the activity to identify goals.

e.g. Mohawk Walk

Goal: The goal is to come together as a group to solve the initiative.

Initiative: Have students execute the initiative while the instructor watches the interaction.

Debrief: What things did anyone in the group do to help lead us to our goal?

Response time

What things did anyone in the group do to lead us away from our goal?

Response time

Be careful to steer the conversation away from a person and focus it on the "What" and "How".

Check In: Check in with the group to access their progress with probing statements/questions like:

I get a sense that.....

We seemed to cover...... does that sound right?

Did I miss anything?

Closure: Say: Is there anything else anyone would like to add?

Pause

Say: Are there any new issues you would like to add?

Qualities of Debriefing Questions:

Focus on What and How, not Who.

Focus on one issue at a time (ask only one question at a time).

Focus Questions:

Was there evidence of the F.V.C. in place?

Could you tell me a little more about.......?

         Could you explain......?
