School Begins
The Mahopac Falls Elementary
School was opened in September of 1999. The school, after being closed for a
number of years, was however, re-opened with an entirely different purpose than
before. Instead of housing several
grades in one building, this new school was to function as a Kindergarten
Center. During its first year,
the school contained 11 classrooms. One of these rooms served in a Special
Education component, and another was used for the creation of a program called
"The Bridge," which serves to meet the needs of Autistic Children.
During this school year, two Special Education components will be added to our
facilities in the form of Partnership classes. Children in these
classes spend one half of their day in a Special Education setting, and the
other half is spent within an Inclusion type program.
Our Program
Students
who attend our school do so in a half-day program. Our first session begins at
8:30A.M. and ends at 11:00A.M.. Our second daily session begins at 12:20P.M.
and ends at 2:50P.M.. Our program utilizes hands-on experiences while seeking
to promote thinking skills. The program promotes a sequential learning
environment, and has been in use in the district for a number of years. The
Mathematics component in our program is called Mathland. This program deals
with concepts such as sorting, classifying, counting and patterning, as well as
measuring and simple machines. Our Science component consists of individual
units focusing on Fabrics and The Five Senses.
