The Southern Westchester BOCES School Library System in partnership with the School Library Systems of Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES and Yonkers has been awarded a Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grant. New Century Learning: A Collaborative Approach provides funds for a unique staff development opportunity for school library media specialists and teachers to collaborate in the development of a model that will engage students in Web-based inquiry learning activities that incorporate curriculum standards, relevant Internet resources and electronic databases. Pam Berger, a nationally recognized educational technology consultant and author of Internet for Active Learners: Curriculum-Based Strategies for K-12, will be the lead trainer.

Forty-eight teams consisting of a school librarian and classroom teacher will be selected to learn to use new tools and acquire the skills and knowledge needed to use electronic databases and Internet resources with students. Training includes 3 workshop days (over a period of three months) incorporating curriculum development, collaboration strategies, hands-on Front Page 2002 software instruction, after school clinics, online support and specially developed resources hosted on the project website. An application form is included with this letter to be returned to the School Library System by November 19th.
